Dramatic Writing for Stages

Thursday September 30, 19:30-21:00

Workshop Description

All the world may be a stage, but specific rules apply for specific types of performances. Whether you want to learn how to craft crisper, snappier dialogue in your prose or wish to write stage, screen, or audio plays, understanding your audience and the conventions of your chosen form are key to writing effective drama.

Whether visual or auditory, drama for the stage requires different techniques for dialogue to create effective character development, succinct exposition (including the art of leaving some things unsaid), and powerful dramatic tension and irony.

We will cover methods for writing short scenes and apply the concepts to longer works of both prose and the performing arts, whether that be a play, a podcast, or another form of drama.

The workshop will consist of short theory sessions followed by practical writing exercises.
